Sustainability For The Future

For its innovative CleanFlake™ Portfolio, Avery Dennison was granted the Sustainability Award at the Label Industry Global Awards on Tuesday, September 24, 2013.

The Label Industry Global Awards are held annually, alternating between LabelExpo Americas in Chicago and LabelExpo Europe in Brussels. The Global Award for Sustainability is given to the company, which has introduced a product or process that enabled them to maintain the most sustainable and environmentally acceptable working practices and integrate them into purchasing and manufacturing operations as well as demonstrating key materials, production and performance and/or consumer benefits.

This is the second consecutive year that Avery Dennison has been presented with an award during Labelexpo for its CleanFlake™ innovation -  it received the Global Green Award during Labelexpo 2012 in Chicago. In addition, the revolutionary has received the Society of Plastic Engineers Environmental Award in the Design for Sustainability division this year and the Koreastar, Asiastar and Worldstar packaging awards between 2012 and 2013.

Pressure-Sensitive Labeling. Evolved.

Avery Dennison’s CleanFlake™ Portfolio of labeling solutions significantly improves the PET recycling process while maintaining the shelf appeal that pressure-sensitive labels are known for.

Standard pressure-sensitive labels limit PET recyclability into food-grade rPET due to adhesive contamination. However, Avery Dennison has developed Fasson®SR3011, a switchable, water-based adhesive which can be “turned on” or “turned off” depending upon external stimuli. It adheres to the PET bottle until the very end of its lifecycle, when the cohesive bond is broken at the recycler in the sink/float process. This enables the label facestock and adhesive to cleanly separate from the PET flake.
